About Duck Shoot

Duck Shoot is a fairground shooting gallery on your screen. Ducks glide across a bright blue sky from left to right. Tap one and it is hit. You have thirty seconds to bag as many as you can.

How to play

Tap or click a duck to shoot it. Each hit is one point, and the duck vanishes. The countdown at the top starts at thirty, and when it reaches zero the round is over. Tap again to play another.

Ducks enter from the left edge at random moments and at random heights. Some cruise slowly across. Others go past at more than twice that pace. Any duck that reaches the right-hand side unshot simply flies away. There is no penalty for letting one go, and none for a shot that misses. You also never run out of ammunition, so there is nothing to reload.

One tap hits one duck. If two are flying close together, you need a tap for each.

How many ducks are there?

The ducks appear at random, so no two rounds are the same, but on average a little under two arrive each second. Over thirty seconds that is somewhere around fifty ducks. You will not get them all, because some rounds bunch them together and some send a string of fast ones, but it tells you what is possible.

A first-time score in the low twenties is normal. Thirty is good shooting. Forty or more means very few are getting past you.

Shooting tips

Lead the fast ones. A quick duck moves a noticeable distance between the moment you decide to tap and the moment your finger lands. Aim a little in front of its beak. The hit area is slightly bigger than the duck itself, which helps, but a tap on its tail will often be too late.

Take them early. A duck you hit on the left side of the screen is one you no longer have to think about. If you wait for them to reach the middle, the next ones are already arriving behind.

Fast ducks first. When a slow duck and a quick one are both on screen, shoot the quick one. The slow one will still be there in a second. The other will not.

Hold a position. Keep your finger or pointer hovering on the left third of the screen, around the middle height. Ducks come in at every height, so the centre gives you the shortest move to any of them.

Do not chase. If a duck has got past and is nearly at the right edge, let it go. Turning to catch it usually costs you two fresh ones on the left.

On a phone, try turning it sideways and switching to full screen. A wider sky gives every duck a longer flight and gives you more time for each shot.

Simple and cheerful

Duck Shoot has no rules to learn and no way to fail, only a score to beat. That makes it suitable for small children, who enjoy tapping the ducks whatever the count, and for anyone who wants half a minute of light competition. Take turns and compare scores, or play three rounds and add them up.

The game is free and runs in your browser on phones, tablets and computers. There is nothing to download, and the next round is one tap away.
